Does the State of Texas require a General Contractor to have a license?
The State of Texas does not require that a General Contractor have a license; however, a builder must be registered with the Texas Residential Construction Commission.

What about warranties on a home under construction?
For complete information, go to the web site for the Texas Residential Construction Commission.  Click Warranty Companies, and you will see the information on warranties and companies that can provide the warranty.  Also, from the home page, and look under HOT LINKS and choose Warranties/Performance for more information.

Warranties and insurance can be purchased by the customer, or the builder can purchase builders’ risk insurance to protect their interest during the construction phase.  The builders’ risk policy would cover the structure until the home is occupied.  Certain policies contain other restrictions, so the customer should review the policy to be sure they are adequately protected.

What is the cost per square foot in Tyler?
It is impossible to give a definitive answer to this question. Due to many different variables in building a home, the cost per sq. foot is hard to calculate until you sit down with a contractor and specify your requirements.
