With eight builders and 20 associate members, the National Association of Home Builders issued a charter to the Home Builders Association of Tyler on May 25, 1953. In May 1984, the name was changed to Tyler Area Builders Association. This area covers Anderson, Cherokee, Freestone, Henderson, Navarro, Smith, Wood and Van Zandt counties. The association holds annual events each year:
Tyler Area Builders Association was proud to participate in building a Fire Safety House with the City of Tyler and county fire departments in 1992. TABA also sponsored the Santa House in 1998, and continues to work with Habitat for Humanity. In March 1999, TABA moved into their new building at 1504 Grande Blvd. In 2001 the TABA built a new dormitory for the Azleway Boys Home as a community service project. In 2005 TABA members set a World Record when they built a 2-Hour House in 2 hours, 52 minutes, 29 seconds. Current membership at the end of 2007 is just under 800, putting TABA among the largest builders’ associations in Texas. Growth is expected to continue with the positive, steady expansion of the Tyler Area and East Texas. |
